BADMAN KEITH BAND BRINGS DETROIT—The award-winning Luther Badman Keith Band will make history when it launches Blues At Baker’s Mondays at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, long acknowledged as the world’s oldest jazz club. Beginning Sept. 11, Keith will lead a four-man combo every Monday at Baker’s from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Previously, Baker’s has been closed on Mondays while featuring jazz exclusively six nights six nights a week. “This is the first time we have every booked a blues band on a regular basis but it really shouldn’t come as a surprise because blues and jazz are really connected to each other,” said John Colbert, owner of Baker’s. “We are looking forward to bringing blues lovers who might not have come to Baker’s as well as drawing from our usual jazz fans. We aren’t changing our musical format – just adding something that we think all music fans can appreciate and enjoy.” At Baker’s on
Mondays, the lineup will feature Keith on guitar and vocals, Jame Payton
on saxophone, Milton Heavyfoot Austin on drums and vocals and Darryl Lee
on bass. The band will also feature some of Detroit’s finest musicians
in special guest appearances, including guitarist Keith Owens and trumpeter
Mark Croft. Keith’s band
is noted for its high-energy, entertaining shows, featuring original tunes
penned by Keith, a former professional journalist, and mixing blues, soul
and funk. Location: For more information by phone, call 313-369-1597
